APRIL 2010
Well Lake Fork Has been pretty good this year even though the water color has been really off. . With the rain and snow we have had the lake has been over full and they kept the gates open a long time, so the muddy water went all the way to the dam and it has not cleared up yet. However there have been two Share Lunkers caught so far this year, a thirteen plus and a 15.61. I was lucky enough to catch an eleven plus a few weeks ago and since then my clients have put three over seven pounds in the boat and a host of three to five pounders..Several other fishermen have caught double digit fish so the old lady is still cranking them out.
To get more current ,the past week we have caught from sixteen to twentyfour fish each day until yesterday and we only caught nine. We did see some fish on beds and could have caught one of them but decided to leave it and look for other fish. The water temp is in the upper fifties and lower sixties now so it looks like the fish are beginning to get their act together.
Most of the fish I have been catching have been on jerk baits but a lot have been caught on spinners and chatterbaits as well as soft plastics like Craw worms ,Flukes, Senkos and Zoom Trick worms. and I expect since the fish are getting on the beds soft plastics are going to be the number one bait. It seems like watermelon is still the main color but variations such as watermelon red and watermelon candy are always good colors and sometimes better than the original. As I have always said you never know what will trigger the big bite, just get it in front of the right fish and hang on. Hope the line don't break and the net man is on his toes. If you get to plan a trip to Fork this year and need a guide give me a call or email and we will set it up. Maybe we can get Number 500 in the sharelunker program. That time is getting close. Good Luck   H.
